The unit “Technology and Knowledge (T&W)” conducts scientific research on social conditions and results of the practical use of technology. The core competencies of the unit “Technology and Knowledge” include social scientific research on technology and innovation systems, participative technology assessment, knowledge transfer on collaborative eLearning in theory and practice, internet databases, virtual networks and policy advice on application and use of information and communication technology.
Our research addresses the conditions of emerging technologies, the diffusion of technology and the results from such technology. Special emphasis is directed towards the inclusion of technology users.
ZSI is partner in the project EU4ALL which deals with accessability in European Higher Education, where we are leading the analysis of the legal & political framework as well as socio-economic conditions for accessible LLL.

Staff involved in the project:
Barbara Kieslinger - holds a degree in English and Spanish Philology from the University in Vienna. Currently she holds the position of project manager and head of the “Technology & Knowledge” unit at the Centre for Social Innovation – ZSI. In her position she is coordinating a research project on the integration of Social Software into higher education contexts (pedagogical and technological), called iCamp, and is leading the dissemination activities of the PROLEARN Network of Excellence. Her research work is currently focusing on social networking in educational contexts, innovative pedagogical approaches and the relation between technological and social innovations in the field of education.
Andreas Bohonnek studied economics and sociology at the University of Vienna (AT). Final degree in Sociology. He worked as tutor and project assistant at the Institute of Sociology at University of Vienna, since 1996 at the “Institute of Social- and Health Psychology” (Vienna) as empirical researcher in the field of health behavior.
He worked as empirical researcher in Styria at the “Education Centre Fohnsdorf” (SZF) in the field of qualification and education research and in other research institutions like “L&R social research” and “European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research” (EC) in the fields of health-, youth- and family sociology and qualification-, evaluation- and labour market research.
At ZSI he is participating since Nov. 2009 at the EQUNet project and works also for other projects. Special interest and experience with quantitative methods, development and testing of survey-tools, sample construction, descriptive und multivariate methods (factor-, cluster- and regression-analyses, structural equation modelling with LISREL, AMOS und M+)
