1st EQUNET Conference – Tallinn

EQUNET held the first of three annual conferences in Talinn Estonia on the 15th October, as part of the EURASHE annual conference. The theme of the event focused on “The Social Dimension in Higher Education Reform”.

During the event, members of the EQUNET consortium presented the results of their first year of work in investigating equity in HE systems in Europe, and chaired four workshops dealing with:

The Socioeconomic background of Students in Higher Education
Studies for Social Advancement
Financial Barriers in Higher Education
The Baltic experience and political influence on the social dimension of the BP, in view of widening access to Higher Education.

Enhancing Equitable Access to Higher Education

EQUNET is a 3-year project aiming at increasing access to Higher Education for all marginalized and non-traditional groups based on a principle of equity. The best and worst practices will be highlighted in the project, together with the focus on understanding the barriers to entry to Higher Education, and the incorporation of stakeholders to help propose solutions. Based on this research, the project aims to give implementable recommendations as to how to improve accessibility to Higher Education.
